Policy Guidelines

  • One of the overarching responsibilities of the AHEP Board is to ensure equal opportunity is provided to all hatching eggs producers in utilization of capital assets and equal market access for the production of hatching eggs within Alberta.
  • Hence, policies have been created and are updated as required. Policies are sun-setted when no longer applicable to the industry.
  • The standardized breed will be used when making policy calculations. Numbers will be adjusted using the breed indexing correction factor when a breed other than the standardized breed is being placed.
  • A producer must first place the number of quota birds allocated to a placement date. Extras, due to policy adjustments, may be added provided the 1.8 square foot per bird space requirement is maintained.
  • The AHEP board is mandated to balance supply with demand to the best of their ability and hence, must ensure that policy adjustments to not negatively influence future egg flow.
