Placement Shortage Policy
Intent
To ensure that Alberta Hatching Egg Producers receive the correct number of annualized breeders when the actual number of breeders placed is lower than the Board Ordered number for that placement
Policy Features
- Producers shorted breeder pullets through limited hatchery supply will be entitled to have the shortage replaced along with a one time delayed placement credit calculation (see Policies Appendix)
- Replacement of shorted and delay credit will be based on the actual shortage and will not be affected by allocation changes.
- If available, the producer may have the shorted number of females replaced within the week following the placement date, however, no delay credit will apply.
- Otherwise, the following replacement options will apply:
- The producer may request that the shorted plus delay number of birds be placed within the next three scheduled placements.
- A producer must first place the number of quota birds allocated to a placement date. Extras, due to policy adjustments, may be added provided the 1.8 square foot per bird space requirement is maintained.
- If a producer’s total allocation for a scheduled placement date exceeds the barn capacity, a producer may place the excess number of birds over their next three placement dates. If preferred, a producer my lease out (lessor) the excess number of birds to another licensed producer (lessee) within 26 weeks of the lessor’s placement date.
Policy Requirements
- Adherence of the 1.8 square footage policy is required
- An incidence of shortage must be submitted on the Alberta Hatching Egg Producers Placement Shortage Claim Form within 1 month of the placement date. Beyond this period, claims will not be accepted.
- This policy will come into effect 8 days after the placement date
