Over Production Policy

Intent

Alberta Hatching Egg Regulation 38(5) states:

Notwithstanding section 36(4.1), if a licensed producer fails to remove from production a flock that has been in production for greater than the time period referred to in section 36(3.1), the licensed producer will be subject to an overproduction penalty of $0.28 for every settable egg produced from that flock.

To avoid a monetary penalty from being imposed when circumstances exist preventing breeders/fowl from being marketed within one week, either side, of the current flock life and these circumstances are out of the control of the producer.

Features

  • If a licensed hatching egg producer markets broiler hatching eggs for a period of time beyond the designated flock life that has been established by the board, an adjustment will be made to a subsequent placement. The board will reduce the number of breeder hens placed by an amount that equates to the number of hatching eggs produced beyond the designated flock life.
  • The equivalent number of breeder hens will be calculated based upon industry knowledge of production potential. During the ages of 60 - 64 weeks of age, current data indicates that a broiler breeder hen will produce 0.4285 eggs per day. This equates to 0.3571 eggs per day from each breeder placed at day old. Current data also predicts that 141 settable eggs will be produced by 60 weeks of age.
Sample Calculation:
Days of production beyond flock life = 5 days
Number of day old breeders = 4000 hens
4000 hens x 0.3571 eggs/day x 5 days = 7142 eggs
7142 eggs / 141 eggs per hen = 50 hens
Next placement    4000 - 50 = 3950 hens

 Requirements

Written confirmation must be received by the board office from the processor indicating the extenuating circumstance(s) that delayed marketing of the fowl. This confirmation must be received within two weeks of the actual market date of the fowl.
