Misfortune Policy
Background
One of the priorities of the Alberta Hatching Egg Producers board is to co-ordinate the supply of hatching eggs with the demand for broiler chicks through the designation of both allocation and flock life. Therefore, a misfortune policy must be careful that it does not permit production from granted regrow to occur when supply will be meeting or exceeding demand. It can be a challenge for the board of directors to make clear decisions. While being sympathetic to the producer’s request they must also consider the effect to the rest of the industry.
Intent
To provide assurance to Alberta hatching egg producers who experience unforeseen and extenuating circumstances beyond their control that the Board will work with them to minimize hardship without compromising other registered producers.
Policy Requirement
- Producers who experience unforeseen or extenuating circumstances and wish to have the board consider compensation in the form of regrow, must submit a completed Misfortune Policy Application Form within a reasonable time frame. The application will be addressed at the next scheduled board meeting.
