Leasing Policy

Intent

To allow producers to transfer production commitments to other licensed producers within Alberta.

Policy Features

  1. A producer must first place the number of quota birds allocated to a placement date. Extras, due to policy adjustments, may be added provided the 1.8 square foot per bird space requirement is maintained.
  2. If a producer's total allocation for a scheduled placement date exceeds the barn capacity, a producer may place the excess number of birds over their next three placement dates. If preferred, a producer may lease out (lessor) the excess number of birds to another licensed producer (lessee) within 26 weeks following the lessor's placement date.
  3. Leases shall be negotiated between lessor and lessee.
  4. Leases shall be approved by the hatchery of the lessee.
  5. The board shall review and approve all leases.
  6. If a producer cannot meet the requirements of feature '2' above, the excess birds will be forfeited.
  7. The actual number of birds available to place by the lessee is equal to the actual number of birds not placed by the lessor.
  8. No delay credit will be applied to leases.

Policy Requirements

  • Leases must be submitted on the Alberta Hatching Egg Producers Lease Application Form.
  • When allocation is below 100%, producers/farms that hold the maximum units of quota permitted under the current Alberta Hatching Egg Producers Regulations, can lease in the number of birds that would provide a placement equivalent to the 100% allocation level.

Action

Birds placed from a one time lease agreement will be available for placement again following the lessor's placement schedule. Leases that are on an ongoing basis must be adjusted to reflect the lessee's placement cycle.
